NEWS KIDWIND THAILAND 2026
The 2nd KidWind Challenge in Thailand 2026 successfully concluded on September 6th and 7th. The scale of this year's event reached new heights, not only showcasing the enthusiasm of Thai students for STEM education and green energy technology, but also marking an important milestone for renewable energy education in the Asian region.
This year's competition was held in two major stages, taking place at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) and Sujipuri School. The two-day event was filled with engineering ingenuity, countless tests, and a never-give-up scientific spirit.
High School Division Finals: A Perfect Display of Engineering Thinking and Hard Skills
Entering its second year, the High School division was highly competitive. The grand finals kicked off on September 6th at KMITL, bringing together the top 20 elite teams that stood out from over 200 teams nationwide.
Representatives from our association were present to witness the event and were deeply amazed by the hands-on practical abilities of the Thai students. Many teams boldly utilized metal components combined with belt-drive designs for their wind turbines. Not only were these mechanically ingenious, but their overall maximum power output also saw a significant breakthrough compared to last year. On the competition floor, it was particularly impressive to see students showcasing a homemade "Angle of Attack Measurement Tool"—designed with a large L-shaped handle made of white board and cleverly fitted with a golden scaled angle gauge. This maker spirit, transforming theory into a practical jig, perfectly interprets the infinite potential of engineering implementation.
Excitingly, green energy education is taking root and sprouting across Thailand. Next year, the Thailand regional competition is expected to expand comprehensively into six major regions for the preliminaries, opening the door of exploration for even more young students eager to put their creativity into practice. The top six winning teams from the High School division have qualified to represent Thailand at the Asian League held in Taiwan at the end of this year.
Junior High and Elementary School Divisions Premiere: Sowing New Seeds of Scientific Exploration
Following closely on September 7th, the event moved to Sujipuri School, ushering in Thailand's first-ever competition for the Junior High and Elementary school divisions, with enthusiastic participation from 15 junior high teams and 20 elementary teams.
To deepen the professional knowledge of the supervising teachers, Professor Chou Chien-heng, Chairman of our association, specially conducted an in-depth lecture and workshop on the basic functions and principles of wind turbines for the leading teachers during the event. This aims to help the teacher-student teams achieve even better performance in the upcoming Asian League in Taiwan. AESEA would like to extend special congratulations to all the junior high and elementary school teams that stood out in this competition and qualified for the "2026 KidWind Challenge in Asia."
The Trial of the Wind: Nourishment for Growth
"Life is like a wind turbine; we may not be able to choose the direction of the wind, but we can learn how to convert wind power into forward-moving energy."
KidWind has never been just a competition of "whose wind turbine generates the most power." It is a learning environment for children: to ask questions boldly when in doubt, to experiment bravely when facing the unknown, and to start over when encountering failure. Every team holding their breath in front of the wind tunnel, and every pair of eyes shining brightly as the blades spin with the wind, represents a pure passion that transcends borders and languages.
A wind turbine with lower power output today might just be the starting point for a great energy engineer tomorrow; and that child staring intently at the spinning blades in front of the wind tunnel may one day create energy technologies that change the world.
We thank KMITL, Sujipuri School, all supporting organizations, and every supervising teacher and parent who believed in the children and accompanied them through their trials and errors. Although the competition has ended, the gentle breeze of learning has just begun to blow.
